Jeannie Bassi: The MidAtlantic Maniac (click)
March 8, 2009 11:00 PM

Jeannie Bassi from Jeannies Beach CrossFit in Virginia Beach, VA grew up in Thailand, where she competed in Varsity sports against 8 International teams in Southeast Asia.

When she was young she was diagnosed with pretty severe scoliosis, and had to wear a hard plastic body brace for over 2 years to keep her spine from getting any worse. She was told that the 38 degree curve in her spine would prevent her from doing most sports. It was then she took action and began doing 'functional' movements in her room: squats, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups. Long story short, she went from a 38 degree to a 12 degree curve by working her muscles properly and efficiently.

She is now a full bore CrossFitter and will be competing in the Mid Atlantic qualifiers on April 25-26.

CrossFit Radio Episode #6

October 27th, 2008
Jeannie Bassi - More than just a pretty six-pack

Sunday's show was dedicated to the "Women of CrossFit." It was a great show (if I do say so myself), made greater with our first guest - Jeannie Bassi. Don't know Jeannie? Well you probably will in the near future, like say...... next summer at a little known event called "The CrossFit games." Yes, you've heard it here first. She is my personal pick for placing in the top three. I know, I know, that is nearly an insurmountable feat but I think she will live up to the billing. If you doubt me then just check out her website at www.beachcrossfit.com. Watch her doing handstand pushups on the rings and it won't be long before you too are a believer.
This is one fit chick, but the best part about her is that she is an affiliate owner that is kicking butt in helping other CrossFitters. She is a successful business woman that is a great role model for other women who are thinking of following their passion and opening an affiliate box. I think Jeannie embodies everything that CrossFit hopes to promote and that is why she was on our show. She spoke about following that passion on the show. She also talked about how the CrossFit certifications compare to all of the other "traditional" certifications and so much more. To listen to her great interview as well as the other great women that were featured on Sunday's show just follow the "download as mp3" link on The CrossFit Journal . And yes, in case you were wondering, she is now on the list that I mentioned on one of my last posts. -JJ

.Big thanks to Neil & Justin for the opportunity to share my experiences with CrossFit and being a proud affiliate. To all those out there considering becoming an affiliate, you have to believe in what you do everyday and that passion will feed off to those around you...don't hesitate, dip down and drive yourself up with force, before you know it you'll be jumping higher than you ever thought possible. CrossFit has taught me that with determination, struggle, intensity, drive and strong mental and physical will, you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind too. If CrossFit were a drug, consider me a lifetime addict!
